Description

From Luxor drive south heading Esna to visit the Esna Temple. The Temple dating to the Ptolemaic and Roman periods and one of the last temples built in Egypt.


The Esna Temple, also known as the Temple of Khnum, is an ancient Egyptian temple located in the city of Esna, about 55 kilometers (34 miles) south of Luxor. The temple was built during the Ptolemaic and Roman periods, and is dedicated to the god Khnum, who was believed to be the creator of the world and the god of the Nile River's inundation. The temple is renowned for its well-preserved hypostyle hall, which features 24 columns decorated with intricate reliefs and colorful hieroglyphs. The Esna Temple is a significant cultural and historical site, and provides valuable insights into the religious beliefs and artistic traditions of ancient Egypt.

The temple is dedicated to the god Horus, who was believed to be the protector of the pharaohs and the god of the sky and war. The temple was built during the Ptolemaic period, between 237 BC and 57 BC, and is one of the best-preserved ancient temples in Egypt.
